Oasis
The wild sculpture of Olneya tesota, the Sonoran Desert’s ironwood Tree
Landscapes > Oasis
Ironwoods with sculptural bark formations ground the built form as if arising from a naturally-occurring grove and, with ocotillo, overlay organic shapes and shadows to the white canvas of the stucco walls.
A highly diverse array of native species typical of the Arizona Uplands forms the understory. Snake-proof fencing mirrors the architecture’s wood-slat accent walls and encloses the back yard for the family’s dogs.
A concrete plinth bench and firepit link the pool to the mountain view. Drought tolerant agave create a sculpture garden in an interior courtyard with multiple sightlines.
