A Sonoran landscape that matches an interior design firm’s talent
Landscapes > Wiseman and Gale
Previously a citrus grove then a city retention basin, the space was neglected for decades. The Green Room’s design intervention brought back native species to foster the rewilding of Old Town Scottsdale’s design district and upgrade the entrance to one of the valley’s oldest and most respected firms.
Wildflowers provide immersive seasonality. Permeable materials and water retention basins fosters a lush and sustainable landscape and creates a big desert Arizona feeling. A park-like environment welcomes passersby in Old Town, spurring Instagram opportunities.
Existing Phoenix brick pavers were reused and interpreted into a new pattern to connect the entrance to the city sidewalk. Carefully selected salvaged trees anchor the site and add gravitas. Natural granite top dressing is reminiscent of the native topsoil of the Sonoran Desert.
Large boulders inject aesthetic interest while hiding an engineered drainage basin to maintain the flow of storm water and provide extra water to the landscape.
