Staghorn Plaza
Close encounters with a botanical garden wall
Landscapes > Staghorn Plaza
The Green Room designed the staghorn wall to create contrast and interest for the large, mature, and sculptural ferns at the center of the plaza. The horizontal slats highlight the irregular shaped ferns, celebrating their oddities.
The garden features specimen plants from the horticulture office’s private collection. A former greenhouse is re-purposed as a frame to display hanging aroids and bromeliads for a serene and welcoming atmosphere while framing views to the plaza beyond.
The botanical garden is built on top of a former garbage dump at South Coast Botanic Garden on the Palos Verdes Peninsula in Los Angeles, California.
